Morristown, TN
Your dog is a creature of habit who has their set routine. You probably have set times where you walk your dog, feed them, have playtime, etc. When you take your dog to a boarding facility, whether it is just for a single night or an extended trip out of town, that disrupts your dog’s routine. To ease the transition, top-quality dog boarding facilities like AllDogs Canine Care Center require an acclimation policy. Today on the blog, we take a look at this policy and its benefits.
What is your acclimation policy?
Before booking any boarding stays, we require any new dogs to come and spend a day at the facility. We require that all vaccination requirements are adhered to prior to this daytime stay, and there is a $15 charge. This visit allows your dog to become familiar with our facility and staff, and allows our team members to become familiar with your dog as well. We prefer to book these acclimation stays from Monday to Thursday, when we typically have a less busy schedule.
The benefits of an acclimation visit
- Knowing what to expect: We want every dog who boards with us to have a positive experience. If your dog is so anxious or stressed to be in the kennel, they may not eat or could become sick. The last thing we want is to have to call an owner who is on vacation and let them know that the dog is not handling the boarding well. When you drop your dog off for the day and then return, it increases the likelihood that boarding will be a positive experience. It also lets the dog know that you will be back. Moreover, if you start out by booking shorter stays of just one or two nights, this helps prepare your dog for any longer, more extended trips that you might have planned.
- Less stress and anxiety: As mentioned earlier, your dog is a creature of habit. The acclimation stay familiarizes your four-legged family member with the environment of our facility. This also lowers the chance they exhibit stress-related behaviors like whining, pacing or refusing to eat.
- Relationship building: An acclimation stay gives your dog and our staff a jump on building a relationship with one another. Caring treatment from our team will help your dog foster a sense of trust with our kennel staff and make them feel more secure and confident on future stays.
Is your boarding facility right for my dog?
Our staff have experience working with dogs of all sizes and breeds. We also have someone on site 24/7/365. However, a few conditions and behaviors may disqualify your dog from staying with us.
These include:
- Dogs that currently are in heat
- Aggressive dogs who won’t let our staff handle or feed them
- Dogs who bark excessively
- Dogs who recently had surgery, although one of our managers can approve these stays on a case-by-case basis
